Makassar City, South Sulawesi

Fort Rotterdam, or also known as Fort Ujung Pandang, is a historic building in Makassar City, South Sulawesi. When viewed from a height, its shape resembles a turtle crawling towards the sea, so this fort is often called Turtle Fort.
A beautiful green garden is in the middle of the fort. The grass is neat and tidy. The page is clean. Truly a place worth visiting.

There are 16 buildings with European-style architecture lined up around the inner walls of the fort. All buildings use gable-shaped roofs with sharp slopes and have many doors and windows.

Fort Rotterdam has an area of approximately 3 hectares. There are five bastions (guard posts) in each corner of the fort: Bone, Bacan, Buton, Mandarasyah, and Amboina. Each bastion is connected to the fort wall, except the southern part. To go up to the bastion there is a layer of black stone and brick. Bastions have gaps that function as a place to scout or shoot.

Fort Rotterdam is located on Jalan Ujung Pandang No. 1, Bulogading Village, Ujung Pandang District, Makassar City, South Sulawesi. The location of the fort is easy to reach because it is located in the city of Makassar, precisely in front of the sea port of Makassar city. The distance is about two kilometers from Losari Beach. From Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport it can be reached in around 30 minutes by car or motorbike. Meanwhile from Soekarno-Hatta Harbor it is only 15 minutes.
