Ayam Goreng 99 is an authentic Indonesian restaurant located in Kingsford, Sydney. The name “Ayam Goreng” literally means “fried chicken” in Indonesian, and this place is something of an institution among lovers of Indonesian cuisine in Sydney.

Founded in 1998, the restaurant has been serving traditional recipes, especially its signature marinated fried and grilled chicken, to a loyal base of diners.
Signature Dishes: Fried & Grilled Chicken
The core of the menu is, unsurprisingly, their ayam goreng (fried chicken) and ayam bakar (grilled/charcoal-grilled chicken). Their chickens are marinated in a blend of traditional spices (turmeric, garlic, ginger, galangal, etc.), giving the meat both depth of flavor and aromatic character.

For the fried version, the marinade and technique aim to produce a crisp exterior but juicy inside. The grilled version adds a smokiness from charcoal, giving an alternate flavor experience.
They also make their own sambel terasi (a chili-shrimp paste sauce) in-house in a traditional large wok, simmering for hours. This sambal is often served with the chicken (or sold in jars at their restaurant) as a spicy complement.

Other menu items include: Nasi Goreng (fried rice), Bakmie Goreng (fried egg noodles), Satay (chicken or lamb), Cah Kangkung (stir-fried water spinach with belacan), Soups, traditional Indonesian drinks, side dishes, etc.
