Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah is one of the largest and most iconic mosques in Indonesia. Located in the city of Semarang, the capital of Central Java Province, this mosque serves not only as a place of worship but also as a religious tourism destination and a center for Islamic cultural activities. The mosque is widely known for its magnificent architecture, spacious courtyard, and unique giant umbrellas similar to those found in the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.

Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah is famous for its architectural style that combines Javanese, Islamic, and Roman influences. The mosque was designed by architect Ahmad Fanani. The main building features a traditional Javanese pyramid-style roof combined with a large central dome measuring about 20 meters in diameter.

In the courtyard, visitors can see 25 large pillars inspired by Roman architecture, symbolizing the 25 prophets in Islam. One of the mosque’s most distinctive features is the six giant hydraulic umbrellas, which open and close automatically. These umbrellas resemble those in Al-Masjid an-Nabawi in Saudi Arabia.
