I wanna tell you about this tiny two-story cafe that spills out onto the street of Panglima Polim, Jakarta.

The ground level is cluttered with vintage-look furniture and an espresso machine that takes up about half the room. Colorful menu recommendations are scribbled on a blackboard on the back wall, along with positive quotes promoting good health. It’s a cool look, but feels eager to please.

In all, Mangia is a pleasant place to start the day or while away a sunny afternoon. The staff there do what they can to make things easy for visitors, offering valet parking, kids’ meals and flexible breakfast orders. It’s the kind of service that sets the neighborhood apart from the hectic entertainment found in the nearby malls.

And that’s something worth trying for.
