George Town
George Town is one of the historical central cities in Malaysia. This port city, which has existed since the 17th century, is a meeting place for various ethnicities and cultures that live side by side to this day.
George Town also witnessed the history of World War II and the independence of Malaya and the formation of the Malaysian Federation. Tourists who come there can see various buildings with unique architecture while walking, cycling or riding a pedicab.
There are more than 1,700 historical buildings in this Core Zone which line the four main streets of Las Pengkalan, Lebuh Pantai, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling and Lorong Cinta. There is also a stretch of sea around the port that is a shame to miss.
Hundreds of murals inhabit the small radius of the old town, now developed into one enormous art trail. Follow the trail via bike or on foot, or ditch the map and see what you happen to stumble across in the many side streets.
