The cable car connects the Tung Chung part of Lantau Island with Ngong Ping Terminal, which is located next to Ngong Ping Village. This cultural village lets you experience a traditional Chinese heritage and visit historical attractions like Po Lin Monastery, Tian Tan Buddha (Big Buddha), Wisdom Path, and Tai O Fishing Village.
Ngong Ping Cable Car is a 5.7-kilometre long bi-cable gondola lift system linking between Tung Chung and Ngong Ping (where the Po Lin Monastery and Tian Tan Buddha are located). There are 2 types of cable car: a standard cable car that carries up to 17 passengers and a crystal cabin with a transparent glass floor, offering a bird's eye-view of Lantau Island.
The cable car journey offers a 25-minute aerial alternative to the current one-hour journey by Tung Chung Road, allowing visitors to glide across Tung Chung Bay and up to Lantau Island towards Ngong Ping Plateau. During the 25-minute journey, travelers can see panoramic views over the North Lantau Country Park, the South China Sea, Hong Kong International Airport, the Tung Chung valley, Ngong Ping Plateau and surrounding terrain and waterways. As visitors approach Ngong Ping, they can see The Big Buddha and the Po Lin Monastery.
Step off at Ngong Ping Village, full of Chinese character, to sample local snacks, shop for special gifts and indulge in multimedia and interactive attractions.
The Big Buddha, the world’s second largest outdoor seated bronze Buddha statue, is only minutes away from the Village. Climb 268 steps to the base for a closer look at the 34-metre-tall statue and its surrounding verdant, mountain terrain.
Conclude your Lantau cultural trip by visiting the century-old Po Lin Monastery, situated right next to Big Buddha.
