Venice or Venezia

Venezia or better known as Venice, is a beautiful and historical city located in the Veneto region, northern Italy. As one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, Venice offers beauty and charm that is difficult to express in words.
Perhaps the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Venice is its famous canals. The city has more than 100 canals and 400 bridges, and one of the most famous canals is the Canal Grande.
Tourists can explore this city by riding a gondola that is swung by traditionally dressed gondoliers or using a water taxi.

When walking along the canal, visitors can see the architectural beauty of the ancient buildings towering on both sides of the canal. Not only canals, Venice also has a number of interesting historical places to visit. Apart from that, Venice is also famous for its rich arts and culture. There are many museums and art galleries scattered throughout the city, including the Galleria dell'Accademia and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.

Visitors can also enjoy classical music performances at the Teatro La Fenice or enjoy performing arts at the Teatro Goldoni.

Not only art and culture, Venice is also famous for its delicious Italian cuisine. Venetian specialties include cicchetti, which is similar to Spanish tapas, and sarde in saor, a fish dish made from sardines marinated with onions, raisins and vinegar.

Visitors can also enjoy risotto nero, a risotto served with black squid and panettone, a traditional Italian pastry made from rich dough and filled with dried fruit.

One of the most famous is Piazza San Marco, or St. Mary's Square. Mark's. It is the most famous place in Venice and is home to St. Basil's Basilica. The beautiful St. Mark's and the magnificent Palazzo Ducale.

The San Marco Basilica building was influenced by Western European, Islamic and Byzantine architectural styles. This is related to Venice's past as the main power on the seas at that time. To enter the church, which was built in 1902, I had to queue for about half an hour. While the front facade is stunning, the inside actually looks old and ordinary. Entry to the church is actually free, but to enter some special parts you need to buy a ticket.

If St. Mark's Basilica is the most popular building in Venice, Piazza San Marco is the most famous square. Located on the Grand Canal and overlooking the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Piazza San Marco is one of the first places visited by tourists traveling to Venice. This square looks beautiful because it is surrounded by amazing buildings such as San Marco Basilica, Campanile, Doge's Palace, Torre dell'Orologio, and beautiful buildings with arched gates. It's hard not to spend a moment in Piazza San Marco.

The orange tower opposite the San Marco Basilica is 98.6 meters high. The building is made of red brick and at the top stands a golden statue of the angel Gabriel. The Campanile, which was built in 1902, previously functioned as a watchtower but is now a viewing tower for tourists who travel to Venice and want to see the best views of Venice from above.

There are hundreds of canals that flow between the islands of Venice, and the Grand Canal is the largest.  Rialto Bridge has become an icon of Venice thanks to its exquisite design and details. Rialto Bridge was originally built of wood but collapsed in 1524. After that it was rebuilt from stone. Because it has become a popular tourist destination in Venice, to cross the bridge you have to go slowly because the bridge is crowded with tourists passing by and taking photos. Apart from that, there are also several souvenir and jewelry shops on the Rialto bridge.

One of the best experiences in Venice is riding a gondola. When traveling to Venice, make sure you take a gondola ride in Venice. Even if you're not really interested in riding a gondola, don't miss the opportunity to tour Venice by vaporetto (water bus). The price is not cheap, around 100 Euros, but you can get around this by riding with several other tourists.

If you are looking for a tourist destination full of history, culture and beauty in Europe, Venice is the perfect place to visit.

How to get there:
By Bus:
If you plan to reach Venice by bus, note that the parking of the bus and the only bus station in Venice is Piazzale Roma. Once you reach here, you need to take the water transport (which is closely located) to reach the main town or your place of interest. You can follow Autostrada 4, A13 and SS11 which are the major routes to Venice from different parts of Italy.

By Train:
The Santa Lucia Station is located within the town of Venice and is the main mode of transport that is often used by people to travel to different cities in Europe. The terminal is well-linked with not just the Italian cities like Rome, Milan, Florence and Padua but other European cities like Austria, Germany, Paris and London (via the most popular train, the Orient Express). Note that advance bookings are cheaper and you might want to buy a Eurail Pass that offers great deals but make sure you make a reservation for your desired departure time at the station at least a day before you travel.
Once you reach at the station, you can hire a private boat or a waterbus (the most common and economic mode of transport) that will take you to your hotel via waters of Grand Canal. This can be a great experience to feel the city up-close.
