SOTO PABO
Soto Pabo
Spg. 222, Jalan Kota Batu, Kampong Pintu Malim,
Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei
Brunei is known for its beautiful sunsets, especially overlooking the iconic Kampong Ayer. Not far from the new Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Bridge in the capital, a scenic restaurant built on the riverside called Soto Pabo. Here, we enjoyed a hot bowl of noodles served with broth made from the best beef parts handpicked by the owner.
Soto Pabo is a beloved dish in Brunei, particularly known for its hearty and flavorful characteristics. It’s a type of soto, a traditional soup that often features a rich broth and various toppings. The soup is typically made with a fragrant broth, often flavored with spices such as turmeric, ginger, and lemongrass, which give it a distinct aroma and color. It usually contains tender pieces of chicken or beef, which are simmered until they absorb the rich flavors of the broth. Soto Pabo is often garnished with ingredients like boiled eggs, fried shallots, and fresh herbs, adding both texture and flavor. It's commonly served with rice or rice cakes (lontong) and often accompanied by chili sauce (sambal) for those who enjoy a bit of heat.
Soto Pabo is not only a comforting dish but also a reflection of Bruneian culinary traditions, often enjoyed during family gatherings or special occasions. This dish is a wonderful representation of Bruneian flavors, making it a must-try for anyone visiting the region!
