DE DAM SQUARE, AMSTERDAM

by - 4:00 AM

After all my business wrapped up, I made an appointment with my friend in Amsterdam.
And we choose meeting point at De Dam Square.
This area is near Amsterdam Central Station,
The trip from Almere to Amsterdam is about 40 minutes by sprinter.

Not far from Amsterdam Central Station, you will find Dam Square.

De Dam Square, or commonly called 'Dam', is the central square of Amsterdam which has very important historical and cultural value for the Netherlands. Located in the heart of the city, Dam Square is a meeting point between commercial streets, tourist routes and various historical buildings.

Surrounded by several iconic buildings such as the Paleis op de Dam (Royal Palace), Nieuwe Kerk (New Church), and De Bijenkorf (luxury department store), this square is always bustling with activity.

Paleis op de Dam, with its magnificent architecture, is a royal palace that is still actively used by the Dutch royal family for various official ceremonies. Meanwhile, the Nieuwe Kerk, although called the "New Church", is a historic building that often hosts art exhibitions and cultural events.

Not only these buildings, Dam Square is also known for its National Monument memorial statue, which was erected to commemorate the victims of the Dutch war. This statue is the center of the Liberation Day commemoration on May 5 every year.

Dam Square is also the center of various events and festivals, from Christmas markets, street performances, to demonstrations. The atmosphere in this square always changes, depending on the time and day; it can be busy with tourists and locals enjoying the afternoon sun, or calm at dusk with sparkling lights adding to its beauty.

This square is surrounded by several famous buildings, including Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam (Royal Palace of Amsterdam), Nieuwe Kerk (New Church), Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, and the White Pillar of the National Monument. Apart from that, around Dam Square it is also surrounded by many malls and restaurants. This location is busy with horse-drawn carriages, electric trains, cars and motorbikes and even bicycles. Even many typical pedicabs are milling about there. For this reason, Dam Square is a place you need to visit while in Amsterdam City, Netherlands.

Shopping in Amsterdam is very good with a variety of shopping centers. They offer a unique product selection with imported products from Asia, Latin America and Africa. The best option offered by De Bijenkorf (The Bee Hive) is in the Dam Square area. There are many other shopping centers just a short walk from Dam Square.

If you visit Amsterdam, spending time in Dam Square—whether just sitting relaxed on one of the benches, enjoying a meal in the surrounding cafes, or taking photos with the historical buildings in the background—is an experience not to be missed.

This is a place where you can feel the pulse of Amsterdam, a combination of modern life and rich history.

How to get there:
Tram transportation lines 4, 9, 14, 16, or 24 can be used to reach Dam Square. Another alternative is to take bus 355, 357, 359, 361, or 363 and stop at the Dam stop.
You can also visit other historical areas around here, just by walking.
