ASAKUSA, SENSOJI TEMPLE, NAKAMISE DORI STREET

Sensoji Temple
2-chōme-3-1 Asakusa, Taito City, Tokyo 111-0032, Japan

That morning, I deliberately woke up early. Seeing that the weather forecast said that it would most likely rain today, I immediately rushed to prepare. Today I want to explore Asakusa which happens to be close to where I stay. I want to experience street food in Asakusa.

Asakusa is a popular tourist destination among local and foreign tourists. Even Japanese people themselves cannot hide their curiosity and enthusiasm when visiting Asakusa.
They have a different atmosphere and atmosphere when compared to other areas in Tokyo, for example Shibuya, Ginza, Roppongi, or Akihabara. They have a unique atmosphere and lots of tourist spots, such as Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines, amusement parks, and others that are a shame to miss.

1. Sensoji Temple
Sensoji Temple is a famous and best tourist location in Tokyo which has a history of more than 1,300 years. Before setting foot into Sensoji Temple, you will be greeted by Kaminarimon. Kaminarimon is a magnificent red gate that is immediately flashy when seen. Apart from that, Kaminarimon Gate looks unique thanks to the giant red paper lantern in the middle of the entrance. The lantern is flanked by two statues of protective Buddhist deities, namely Fujin and Raijin. The atmosphere at this iconic gate is of course busy and full of tourists.

After you are satisfied looking at the Kaminarimon Gate, you can continue your journey to enter the temple area. You might be surprised by the number of shops along the road to Sensoji Temple. This small street, but enough for two-way traffic, is called Nakamise-dōri. This road directly connects the Kaminarimon Gate with Sensoji Temple. You will not be bored or tired, because along this road you can see or shop for souvenirs. There are post cards, key chains, chopsticks, wallets, paintings, even kimonos. You can get everything in just one location.

Apart from souvenirs in Nakamise dori there are also many shops selling typical Asakusa food, such as daifuku mochi, melon pan, tanghulu and etc. The price is only 100 - 400 Yen.

How to get there:
The closest stations to Sensoji Temple are the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, the Toei Asakusa Line, the Tobu Sky Tree Line, and the Tsukuba Express Asakusa Station. You can reach Sensoji Temple in 5 minutes on foot from any of these stations. The nearest exit to Kaminarimon is Exit A4.
