SHIFEN WATERFALL

Shifen Waterfall
226, Taiwan, New Taipei City, Pingxi District, 乾坑10號

Shifen is the fourth station after Ruifang and is known as the town where the train passes two rows of shops in the town. Because Shifen is also the origin of air lantern culture, people always gather on the railway line to release air lanterns.

Shifen Waterfall is a waterfall located in New Taipei City Taiwan, in Asia, in the Pingxi district, and is part of the Keelung River. ‘Shifen Waterfall' is also known as ‘Taiwan Niagara Falls’, ‘Little Niagara’ and ‘Rainbow Pond’, while ‘Shífēn’ means ‘very’ or ‘completely’.

Shifen Falls is the widest waterfall found in Taiwan, and is approximately 40 meters (131 ft). Shifen Waterfall flows over rocks spread out in a horseshoe shape. Shifen Falls reaches a height of 15 to 20 meters (49 to 66 ft). Shifen Falls is said to be a smaller version of Niagara Falls, and has a cascade flow, where the rocks tilt back from the direction of the water flow. Mist gathers at the base of Shifen Falls and when light refracts through the water droplets, a rainbow forms.

How to get there:
You can take the Taipei MRT Wenhu Line to Muzha MRT Station, then transfer to Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Route 795 (Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Muzha-Pingxi Line) to Shifen Visitor Center, which will take you to Shifen Waterfall.
