YEHLIU GEOPARK

When you have the opportunity to visit Taiwan, you shouldn't miss Yehliu Geopark. Yes, this place is one of the natural tourist attractions that is excellent in Taiwan. Located along the coast of the Wanli district, New Taipei City, this tourist spot offers amazing views of coral rocks of various shapes.

In this 1,700 meter long peninsula, visitors can see coral rocks shaped like mushrooms, ice cream, beehives, ginger and gorillas. There are also rocks shaped like fairy shoes, candles, tofu, and the most famous and symbolic of this place is the queen's head, a rock in the shape of a queen's head which seems to be facing to the right.

Along the beach, visitors can also see various kinds of beautiful fossils such as fossils of living creatures, star-shaped fossils and seaweed. The beautiful charm of the rocks in this place is created due to the process of erosion and weathering due to the impact of the waves of the Pacific Ocean and the movement of the earth's plates that have occurred over a long time.

However, because natural processes will continue to occur, these coral rocks will certainly not be able to maintain their original shape. The impact of gusts of wind, sunlight, rain, sea water and very strong monsoons will cause these stones to change shape.

As happened on the Queenís Head rock. Natural phenomena have made quite significant changes to the stone which is a landmark of the city of Wanli, namely at the neck which looks increasingly thinner. Aware of this, the Taiwanese government and the management of Yehliu Geopark are paying very serious attention by taking quite strict conservation measures.

To protect these stones, along the tourist area, a number of restrictions are posted for visitors. Each rock is marked with a red dividing line which indicates that the rocks cannot be touched by visitors. The red line also functions as a safety sign so that visitors do not cross the area because it is dangerous. As another preventive step, the management of this place also deployed dozens of officers to remind visitors to comply with all these restrictions for the sake of mutual safety.

Entering the beach area, visitors can walk along a special path made with special materials so that they can still feel safe when walking even though the road is wet after the rain. This place also provides a special platform that pampers visitors' eyes to look out into the open sea.

Yehliu Geopark is not too far from Taipei. If you go to Taipei and have an extra day, it is highly recommended to stop by here. The total time required, including travel, is only half a day. If you leave early in the morning it will be better. Firstly, the atmosphere there may not be too busy, so there is more freedom to take photos. Second, you can use the remaining time to visit other objects.

How to get there:
From Taipei City Hall Station, board the 1815 bus. This will take an hour and 15 minutes and arrive a 10-minute walk from the Geopark, costing 83 TWD each way.
