The Roman Colosseum is one of the world's famous historical sites located in the city of Rome, Italy.
This building has become a symbol of the grandeur and greatness of the Roman Empire in the past.
The Colosseum is a magnificent amphitheater located in Rome, Italy. Construction of the Colosseum began in 70 AD and was completed around 80 AD, during the Roman empire.
Built by Emperor Vespasian, the Colosseum was later succeeded by his son, Emperor Titus.

The main purpose of the Colosseum was to host gladiator shows, animal fights, and other entertainment events that were an important part of Roman culture and social life of the time.
The exterior of this building has three levels with giant pillars that give it a classic Roman architectural style. Performances at the Colosseum involved various types of fighting, including gladiators dueling in life-or-death combat, animal fights, and reenactments of famous battles from Roman history.

Over the centuries, the Colosseum suffered damage from earthquakes, looting of materials, and misuse.
However, this building remains one of the most famous and impressive icons of Ancient Rome.
In 1980, the Colosseum was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the wonders of the world that attracts tourists visiting Rome to this day.

The Colosseum could accommodate around 50,000 to 80,000 spectators, making it the largest performance venue in the ancient world. The seating arrangement was based on the social hierarchy at that time.

How to get there:
The Colosseum is located about 1 km south-east of the historic center of Rome and less than 2 km from Termini station where lines A and B of the Rome underground cross. Getting to the Colosseum is therefore very simple, just take the metro line B and get off at the 'Colosseo' stop.
